2020 Blazer vs. 2020 Equinox | Chevy SUV Comparison

If you’re looking for the most fuel-efficient SUV, then you may way to go with the Equinox, which gets 26 miles per gallon in the city and 31 on the highway. That said, the Blazer also performs well when it comes to fuel economy, getting 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 on the highway. 

To ensure that your driving is a pleasure, regardless of the surface you’re traveling, the Blazer offers a convenient drive mode selector that you adjust with the simple twist of a dial. Just choose between tour, tow/haul, all-wheel drive, sport mode, and off-road. 

The Equinox provides a switchable all-wheel drive on its LS, LT, and Premier trim levels, allowing you maximum traction on slippery roads. Both SUVs also provide impressive towing abilities. The Blazer has the ability to tow up to 4,500 pounds and the Equinox, with its 2.0-liter engine and tow/haul mode, can haul up to 3,500 pounds.

Blazer vs. Equinox Engines

The Blazer offers three different engine choices: the Ecotec 2.5-liter engine that provides 193 horsepower and 188 pound-feet of torque, the 2.0-liter turbo that offers 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.6-liter V-6 engine that offers 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The Equinox has two available engines: the more fuel-efficient 1.5-liter four-cylinder that offers 170 horsepower or the larger turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. 

Cargo Space

The Equinox is designed to accommodate almost anything you want to haul with its convenient Cargo Management System. This system features 60/40 split-folding rear seats as well as a compartment that’s conveniently hidden under the floor of the cargo area to keep your personal belongings concealed and organized. With the seats folded flat, you can create up to 63.9 cubic feet of cargo space. 

The Blazer offers only slightly more storage space with a maximum of 64.2 cubic feet of cargo volume. It also provides the convenient 60/40 split-folding seats to make it easy to travel with everything you need. With the Blazer, there is also an available floor-mounted raise system, cargo net, or cargo partition to keep items like groceries and luggage from shifting when you’re on the road. 

Infotainment

Chevrolet understands the importance of staying connected when you’re on the road. On the dash of the Equinox, you’ll find a 7-inch, or an optional 8-inch, touch screen with the MyLink infotainment interface from Chevrolet. Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard, as is Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The Equinox also comes standard with 4G LTE-powered onboard Wi-Fi. You’ll find these same tech features onboard the Blazer as well. 

Interior

The Equinox cabin should be appealing to a wide audience with its suave styling and durable materials. The spacious interior is designed to keep everyone comfortable, regardless of how long you’re on the road. The interior of the Blazer was inspired by the Camaro, with a two-tone color scheme and soft-touch plastics. It also has ambient-lighted front seats that are both heated and ventilated, and heated rear seats. Both of these interiors will keep the driver and passengers comfortable on long trips.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

While it’s always important to remain attentive to your surroundings when you’re on the road, Chevrolet equipped both the Blazer and Equinox with advanced safety and driver-assistance features to help drivers feel more confident when they get on the road. 

The Blazer has a number of available safety features, including automatic emergency braking that helps you avoid a collision or reduce the severity of a front-end collision. Buyers can also choose to add front pedestrian braking that offers pedestrian alerts and even emergency braking to minimize the likelihood of a severe collision. 

The Blazer’s lane-keep assist with lane departure warning gently corrects your steering if you accidentally start to drift from your lane. You can also choose to receive lane departure warnings to let you know if you begin to unintentionally drift. The adaptive cruise control is designed to help maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you, automatically adjusting your cruise control speed to reduce the need for you to brake or accelerate manually.

Finally, the Blazer features an available rear cross-traffic alert that tells you if traffic is coming from the right or left behind your SUV. This advanced safety feature can help you avoid a possible collision if you’re backing out of a driveway on a busy street or out of a parking space in a crowded parking lot. 

Chevrolet includes many of these features in the Equinox as well. The Equinox comes standard with a rear-vision camera. Some of the additional available safety features include adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alerts, rear parking assist, and lane-change alert with blind-side zone alert. Buyers can even enjoy the available high-definition surround vision that gives you an overhead view of the Equinox on the 8-inch color touch screen. With a number of available viewpoints, you can easily park and avoid hitting any nearby objects that aren’t visible in your rearview mirrors.
