2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 vs. Chevy Colorado

December 15th, 2023 by

For more than 100 years, Chevrolet has manufactured over 200 million vehicles. And since 1918, Chevrolet’s trucks have been vital to this brand. Today, the Chevrolet Silverado and Colorado remain two of the company’s top-selling and performing vehicles. If you’re unsure which Chevrolet pickup would be best for you, we at #1 Cochran Chevrolet are here to help. Keep reading for your in-depth guide to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. Chevrolet Colorado.

The Colorado has five unique trims, each offering a different look but sharing a similar athletic and bold design. You can customize your Colorado through eight exterior paint colors and two interior materials. The Silverado 1500 has even more trims — eight — so you have more choices for your Silverado’s appearance. Like the Colorado, the Silverado 1500 has eight exterior paint colors to personalize your truck.

Regardless of the Chevrolet pickup model or trim you select, you can be sure it will be attractive and capable of maximum performance on city roads and highways or off-roading. If you want a smaller truck, the Colorado has an overall length of 213 inches and a maximum width of 74.9 inches. Meanwhile, the Silverado has an overall length of 231.88 inches and a maximum width of 81.24 inches.

Performance and Engines

The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado comes with two engine options. Both are 2.7-liter and turbocharged but differ in the amount of horsepower and torque they create. One generates 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, whereas the other produces 310 horsepower and 391 or 430 lb-ft of torque, depending on the trim you select. Chevrolet pairs both engines with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Here are the four engine options you get with the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500:

  • TurboMax: Generates 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
  • 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8: Produces 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.
  • 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8: Creates 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
  • 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo Diesel: Generates 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque.

Like the Colorado, the Silverado 1500 pairs the TurboMax with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the other three motors with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Towing

Although the Colorado is smaller than the Silverado, it offers the best max towing capacity in the midsize pickup segment. Depending on the engine and trim you choose, your Colorado can pull between 3,500 and 7,700 pounds. According to Car and Driver, this maximum towing capacity exceeds that of close competitors, such as the Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, or Toyota Tacoma.

Because it’s significantly larger, the Silverado has a more robust towing capacity. Your Silverado can pull between 9,500 and 13,300 pounds, depending on your selected engine. The Silverado’s maximum payload capacity ranges from 1,870 to 2,280 pounds.
