West Branch Marina

West Branch Marina is located in West Branch State Park which is about a half-hour west of Youngstown. The marina offers many services and amenities including boat rentals, boat fuel, water-sport equipment rentals, a grill and snack bar you’ll appreciate after a fun day on the water, boat storage, and more. Their fishing boat day rental costs $112, while the pontoon boat rental can get up to nearly $500, and can hold up to 10 people depending on which boat you go with. They also have a wave runner for two people and a runabout for five.

If you prefer a more peaceful experience then definitely check out their kayaks. A peaceful kayak around a lake is one of the most enjoyable ways you could spend a day. A single kayak is $20 per hour or $80 for the day, while a double kayak for two is $25 per hour and $99 for a fun-filled day. Be sure to wear a life vest and follow all safety protocols of both the park and the rental company. Mill Creek Park

You don’t have to go far to have fun on the water in Youngstown. Mill Creek Park follows Mill Creek off the Mahoning River to the west and south of the town. It contains two lakes where boating is allowed, Lake Glacier and Lake Newport, but Newport’s boathouse is currently closed. Never fear though, the Lake Glacier Boathouse is still open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and rentals are available. Lake Glacier is a beautiful 44-acre lake you’re sure to have fun on, just don’t forget the sunscreen and some water and snacks.

From the Lake Glacier Boathouse, you have a few rental options. Kayaks start at $11 per hour for residents and $15 for non-residents. Pedal boats and hydro bikes are available for the same. They offer regular rides on the passenger boat which is a great option if you have kids. Rides start at $1 for a child resident and go up to $4 for a non-resident adult. If you want a longer ride you can reserve a one-hour charter starting at $15 per person for 9 people. You’ll have fun whether you pedal, paddle, or bike around the lake.

The KayaKing

The KayaKing is a company offering kayak rentals and storage if you need a safe place to keep your kayak. They are based in Struthers just ten minutes south of Youngstown. KayaKing offers single-person kayaks that cost $30 for 6 hours and $5 per hour for any additional hours. You can also rent them for multi-day trips of up to seven days starting at $50 for the first day and $20 per day after that. They offer transportation for $30 and can drop off and pick you up at Lake Glacier, Lake Newport, and along the Mahoning River.

If fishing is your thing KayaKing also has single-person fishing kayaks that cost $40 for 6 hours and $60 for the day. Their kayak storage service is just $10 per month. They wrap the kayaks to keep out bugs so call ahead when you’re ready to hit the water for a day on the river or a lake. For each rental, you get one kayak, one paddle, and one life jacket. You also get a dry bag to share between four kayaks so you can all keep your valuables dry. Kayaking down the Mahoning River is not to be missed.

Mosquito Lake Marina

Mosquito Creek Lake lies about 20 miles north of Youngstown and is a man-made reservoir that was completed in 1944. It is the second-largest inland lake in Ohio and is 9.5 miles long and .75 miles wide, all contained inside Mosquito Lake State Park. You’ll find the Mosquito Lake Marina on the southeastern part of the lake by the main boat docks and near the town of Cortland. The Marina is a bait shop and gas station on the water. They offer food concessions like fresh hot dogs and fries, along with bottled drinks and snacks.

Mosquito Lake Marina gives you several options of how you can spend time on the lake. They have pontoon boat rentals, a small fishing boat, and kayaks. The 14-foot fishing boat holds four people and the day rate is $100 which lets you have it for ten hours. The pontoon boats come in 20 and 24-foot lengths and the day rate is $375 for the largest one that holds ten people. Single-person kayaks are available for a $20 deposit and $15 per hour. Whichever boat you choose you’ll have a great time out with friends enjoying Ohio’s parks and lakes.
