What is the Chevy Bison Edition?
Chevy is known for its dedication to excellence on the road. With the rugged Chevrolet Bison Edition, this dedication expands to off-road, with a suite of features that are perfectly designed for your over-the-top adventures. The Bison Edition is available for both the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and 2024 Chevrolet Colorado, providing plenty of options if you want to get your hands on this stand-out design.
The Chevrolet Silverado and Colorado Bison Edition trucks are poised to compete with top contenders such as the Ram Rebel and Ford Super Duty Tremor. Though the Bison looks nearly identical to the standard Silverado and Colorado on the inside, Chevy has revamped the outside of the vehicle to provide you with a whole new experience both on the road and off-road.
Bison Package Features

The Bison package takes Chevy’s top trucks to another level by equipping them with greater protection, larger tires, and enhanced angles. The Bison package comes with boron steel skid plates, a custom front bumper, and steel rocker panel protection. It also delivers exclusive wheels and sizable Goodyear Wrangler tires. On both the Colorado and Silverado, the Bison Edition is the ideal solution for off-roading adventures and rugged terrain.
American Expedition Vehicles Influence
American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) partnered with Chevy in the design and build of Bison Edition trucks. This marks the first time that AEV has collaborated with any original equipment manufacturer in this manner. The AEV influence in Silverado and Colorado Bison models is a large part of what makes these trucks stand out. This element helps the Bison Edition pull ahead of competitors like the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX.
AEV designed five distinct skid plates for the Bison that cover the fuel tank, engine oil pan, transfer case, and front and rear locking differentials. Made from hot-stamped boron steel, these plates offer outstanding protection in even the most challenging environments. The Bison also features AEV-stamped steel on the front and rear bumpers for added protection from logs, rocks, and other hazards.
Silverado ZR2 Foundation
The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 offers a solid base for the Bison to build from. The Silverado HD ZR2 is a heavy-duty powerhouse with features such as a 1.5-inch suspension lift, rear electronic locking differential, and 25-inch all-terrain tires mounted on 18-inch wheels. The Silverado HD ZR2 and HD ZR2 Bison come with a standard 6.6-liter engine or available 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine.
The Bison maintains many of the standout features that are staples across the Silverado line, such as the power tailgate and available six-position Multi-Flex tailgate. The truck also features a 120-volt power outlet, BedSteps, and a Durabed cargo box for additional storage.
The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Bison offers additional features that improve the truck’s functionality for overlanding excursions. The AEV steel front and rear bumpers add strength and stability to this design, elevating it well above the standard Silverado ZR2. Both the front and rear bumper have recovery points, while the front also features winch provisions. On the Bison, you’ll find gloss black 18-inch AEV wheels.
Colorado ZR2 Foundation
The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado is a supremely capable midsize pickup truck equipped with a 2.7-liter turbo 3 engine that offers 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Bison takes everything up a notch. Under the hood, you’ll find a turbocharged 2.7-liter I4 L3B engine with 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The Colorado ZR2 Bison has a 38.2-degree approach angle, 26-degree departure angle, and 26.9-degree breakover angle. Combined with 12.2 inches of ground clearance, this means that you’ll have the functionality you need to traverse nearly any landscape.
The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison stands apart from the regular ZR2 with additional features such as front and rear jounce control dampers from Multimatic. These bump stops are carefully designed to soften hard landings so you can jump the next obstacle with ease.
The Bison features 35-inch mud-terrain tires with AEV 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels. The largest in the class, these tires are sure to deliver an outstanding ride that sets you up head and shoulders above the crowd. Simply accommodating tires of this size was an engineering feat for the Chevrolet design team. The engineers had to cut the wheel liners and fenders, move the axle forward 3.1 inches, and install fender flares to make them fit. If one of these tires goes flat, the Bison is equipped with a full-size spare mounted in the middle of the cargo bed.
Off-Road Geometry
The Bison Edition is designed specifically to improve its off-road capabilities. The Silverado Bison offers an increased front approach angle of 32.5 degrees compared to the Silverado ZR2’s 31.8 degrees. The departure angle also increases from 23.3 degrees to 23.4 degrees.
The Chevrolet Colorado Bison also offers improved angles over the Colorado ZR2. The departure angle is 0.7 degrees greater, the breakover angle is 1.9 degrees larger, and the ground clearance is 1.5 inches higher. Only the approach angle suffers, coming in 0.2 degrees less than the Colorado ZR2.
Optional Powertrain
The Bison Edition is available with a powerful 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine that adds impressive power to this truck. With this optional diesel engine, you’ll enjoy 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. Compared to the gas-powered engine, this represents a 7.6% increase in torque and a 10% increase in horsepower. The 3.0-liter Duramax diesel can credit much of its performance prowess to its refined turbo compressor, improved fuel injectors, and upgraded combustion bowl.
Pricing
The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison has an estimated MSRP of around $63,000. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 Bison will likely start with an MSRP around $81,830 with a standard 6.6-liter V-8 engine. With the optional 6.6-liter V-8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine, the MSRP is expected to increase to $91,220.
